Most packages contain the following clubs, or a similar alternative:
1 x Driver
1 x Fairway Wood
9 x Irons (3-9 irons, pitching wedge and sand wedge)
1 x Putter
Some sets do not offer a driver and instead give an extra fairway wood. This is because beginner golfers typically struggle when using a driver and benefit more from the shorter fairway wood. To discuss variants in each club set, you can

Many sets also offer hybrids in place of the longer irons (3 iron to 5 iron) which makes it much easier to hit the ball straight and far.
Additionally, 5 to 7 irons have larger heads and more perimeter (outer) weighting, and look like a mix between a hybrid club and an iron. The long club designs are technically hybrids, which are very forgiving.
The short clubs (8 iron to Sand Wedge) are usually quite similar to normal irons.
These sets work under the principle that as the club gets longer, it gets harder to hit the ball, so they are made more forgiving.
