16-Year-Old Lydia Ko Successfully Defends her Canadian Open Title

She might still be an amateur, but New Zealand’s Lydia Ko proved on Sunday she definitely has what it takes to keep up with the pros. Winning the Canadian Women’s Open for the second consecutive year at the astonishing age of 16.

It was at this very tournament last year Ko made history becoming the youngest player to win an LPGA tournament at the fresh age of 15 years and four months. Her five-stroke victory over France’s Karine Icher this past weekend has added yet another notch to her already glowing list of achievements. Making Ko the first amateur to ever win two LPGA titles. The debate about whether the 16-year-old should seek an exemption to turn pro early, now swiftly ensues.

“I've got some people above me like my mom and dad. They're the boss, and they're going to help me definitely make the right decision to turn pro at what time,” said Ko after her spectacular win.  “As I'm only 16 it's quite hard to make huge decisions. And when I turn pro it's like a job, where money is all about it and every shot counts.”
