Adam Scott Edges Out Tiger Woods to Win Player of the Year

Adam Scott Edges Out Tiger Woods to Win Player of the Year
It is a decision that’s sparking a lot of debate. Tiger Woods may have been voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by his peers in September, but this week it was Adam Scott who was named Player of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America.

Out of 218 votes, Scott narrowly beat out Woods by five ballots.  Unlike other awards the GWAA takes into account more than just PGA Tour performance.  So while Woods won five times on Tour and collected the PGA Tour money title, the GWAA felt Scott’s Masters win and subsequent success in Australia at the end of year proved a bigger achievement.

It is an honour to be recognised as the most consistent male golfer of 2013 and it is appreciated to have the respect of the Golf Writers of America.  Thank you,” Scott said.

The Titleist player will be recognised at the GWAA Awards Dinner at Augusta on April 9th.  Here, Scott will be joined by this year’s fellow winners, Inbee Park and Kenny Perry.
