The use of the belly-putter in golf is one that has been shrouded in controversy for many years, with some professionals claiming it provides an unfair advantage on the green. Major champions Tiger Woods and Ernie Els have previously called for the clubs to be banned, which has added fuel to the debate, as it provides an anchor for the putter against the stomach. And now, presenter of BBCs the Golf Show Graham Spiers has called for golfs governing body the RA to make a decision on the matter sooner rather than later. In a column on the news providers website, Mr Spiers said the group could risk making a novelty club - which is considered a gimmick by others - appear normal. His comments were made after he interviewed Peter Dawson, chief executive of the RA, for the Golf Show on Radio Scotland, who claimed intense discussions are currently taking place regarding the matter. .. US professional golfer David Mathis looks promising against a field of intimidating competitors, as he established a lead in the first round of the Travelers Championship. While attention before the tournament had focused on major winners Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson and Keegan Bradley, Mathiss efforts paid off after he failed to make the cut at the Olympic Club for last weeks US Open. Starting from the tenth hole, he opened the competition with a birdie and followed with a hole-in-one at the 158-yard 11th, as well as gaining another shot at the next. Sinking a hole-in-one at any age is quite an achievement for any golfer, but doing so at the age of ten seems almost an impossibility. However, this is exactly what one young player did at his familys course at the Golden Sands Golf Grill in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, reports WZZM. Young Will Kolenda was taking part in a golf camp and hit an ace on the par-three, 175-yard third hole, using his driver to achieve the miraculous shot.
