Asia Fights Back as First EurAsia Cup Ends in Tie
Team Asia made a sweeping comeback on Saturday to tie team Europe, 10-10, at the first EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

The event looked to be all but settled going into the final day, with Europe needing just 3 ½ points to secure the win. But a final day push from team Asia proved too much as they stormed the final 10 single matches, earning an additional 7 points.

European captain Miguel Angel Jimenez and Dutchman Joost Luiten were able to obtain 2 points on Saturday, with an additional point split from two other matches. While his team didn’t earn an outright win, 50 year-old Jimenez seemed pleased with the overall outcome of the tournament.

“It's an amazing day of golf,” the Spanish golfer said afterwards. “It's been very tough. At the end of the week, the European team did not win the tournament but the Asian team, they played very well.”

Adding, “As I said in the prize giving presentation, Asia, Europe, they both win, nobody loses.”

The Ryder-Cup style tournament is set to return to Malaysia in 2016 and 2018. With the Malaysian Prime Minister confirming the news at the end of the event.

“Our aim is to continue the fantastic growth the sport of golf has already seen in Asia,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak. “This event has the full support of the Malaysian government.”
