Casey Clinches First Victory in Over Two Years at Irish Open

Casey Clinches First Victory in Over Two Years at Irish Open
In less than four years Paul Casey has gone from 3rd in the world rankings to 169th.  Sunday saw a triumphant return for the golfer as he won the Irish Open at Carton House.

Casey took an early lead on Sunday, sinking five birdies in six holes from the 8th, before bogeys on the 15th and 16th cut his lead down to one stroke.  But the 35 year-old quickly recovered with an eagle on the 18th to secure his first win since January 2011.

It’s been a difficult journey for the Englishman, who has been plagued by multiple injuries and the breakdown of his marriage in recent years.

“It has been a while and when that putt went in I was feeling half relief and half satisfaction at completing such a great round.  Winning the Irish Open is an absolute dream.”

The victory at Carton House bumps the golfer up to 102nd in the rankings.  A result Casey will surely be looking to build upon.
