A keen amateur golfer has matched the feat of Padraig Harrington and bettered the scores achieved by professionals including Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose by registering a par at the world's most extreme golf hole.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Charles Starmer-Smith explains his thought of standing on a cliff edge waiting to tackle the 440-yard par-three known as the Extreme 19th Hole at Legends golf course in South Africa.
Having to use a helicopter to firstly reach the teeing area and then be transported to a tiny green situated some 1,400 feet below, he was the latest player attempting to become $1 million richer for being the first to card a hole-in-one.
Mr Starmer-Smith took out a
golf driver for the challenge and sent his
golf ball flying out into the wilderness, only to be surprised when realising that it had come to rest on the green.
Now faced with being the first person to ever birdie the hole, he took a deep breath but sent his 16-foot shot with his
golf putter just wide of the hole and had to be content with par.
This feat equalled the score set by
Wilson golf clubs user Padraig Harrington, while also proving one better than the bogeys carded by Garcia, who plays with
TaylorMade TP Red golf balls, and current world number 67 Rose.
