Americans support Woods for Olympic Games
Tiger Woods may have upset many people with his behaviour recently, but that has not prevented a large portion of Americans from wanting him to represent the country in the Olympic Games, a survey has found.

Some 69 per cent of respondents to the Seton Hall University sports poll would be keen for the world number one to step onto the first tee with his Nike golf clubs when golf becomes an Olympic sport.

Broken down, three quarters of men had no objection to the idea, while 63 per cent of women were keen that he had the chance to win a gold medal.

Rick Gentile, the director of the poll, said in a statement: "Tiger still has work to do to win back the public.

"But the Tiger camp should be pleased by the strong number supporting him being a potential member of the team."

Golf is set to become an Olympic sport for the first time in 2016 when the Olympic Games will be hosted by Rio De Janeiro, after the International Olympic Committee added the sport to the schedule in October.

If Woods did claim gold, then this would add to a resume that already includes 14 golf major victories and 71 triumphs on the PGA Tour, which puts him third on the all-time list.
