Rory McIlroy conceded that Ireland failed to take advantage of some good fortune as they missed out on winning the Omega Mission Hills World Cup by a single stroke to Italy.
The Titleist Pro V1x golf ball user and partner Graeme McDowell had led the tournament since firing a 58 in the opening-round fourballs.
Four straight birdies on the front nine of their final 18 holes gave them a slight cushion, but they failed to maintain this rhythm and eventually finished in a share of second alongside defending champions Sweden after a round of 70.
McIlroy revealed afterwards that he enjoyed the experience of playing alongside Callaway golf equipment user McDowell and hopes the pair can reignite their partnership in the event in the future.
The 20-year-old said: "We both played pretty average to be to be honest. We shot two under but it could have been a lot better than that.
"We got lucky in a couple of spots today (November 29th), we just didn't make the most of it. Hopefully I can come back next year and Graeme can come with me and we'll give it another shot."
McIlroy was appearing in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup for the first time as Ireland searched for their third triumph in the event.
The US hold the record for the most number of wins with 23.
