Many sports participants may see their career defined by one moment, but for golfer Woody Austin this seems set to be for a comedy incident rather than a victory.
The
Cleveland golf irons user took 56 per cent of the votes in a Golf Channel poll to find the Best 'Oops' Moment of the Decade.
Austin's moment of fame came in the 2007 Presidents Cup when attempting to play a shot from the lip of a pond which required him to base his stance in the hazard.
After performing his stroke, the 45-year-old lost his balance and tumbled backwards to stumble face first into the water, much to the amusement of those bearing witness, including
Nike golf driver user Tiger Woods.
Jack Nicklaus, who was captaining the US team in the event, stated at the time: "I have a feeling that he will be hearing about that for the rest of his life."
Austin joked about the incident later in the tournament by wearing a scuba mask walking down the fairway in his singles match against Angel Cabrera.
He is also a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, with his best result in a golf major coming in the 2007 PGA Championship when second behind Woods.
