Many golfers have suffered from withdrawal symptoms since Christmas as the snow and frost have forced many courses to close, but one player decided that he would head out wearing a pair of ice skates.
Anthony Caira, a former ice hockey player and current PGA professional at Kirkcaldy Golf Club in Fife, Scotland required the skates to hold a solid stance as he took out his
golf driver to play some shots.
However, club captain Allan Elder revealed his frustrations to Fife Today and explained that even when the snow stops, there will still be further delay before the course is ready to be greeted by players with their
golf irons and
golf balls.
He said: "The bottom line is we've been closed for four weeks now simply because the course has been covered in snow.
"There's a chance of a thaw over the next couple of days, but it will still take time to get the course in condition for playing. The course will remain closed until the greenkeeper feels it's in a playable condition."
A separate sport called snow golf does exist, with a world championship held every year, assuming that conditions permit.
Reasons for previous cancellations include thin ice and general bad weather.
