Individuals looking for a new challenge may want to pack their
golf bags for the Maldives in the future as the country is poised to build a floating golf course.
The island nation's government has reached an agreement with the firm Dutch Docklands to develop a host of floating facilities to tackle the threat of global warming.
Climate change is among the chief priorities of president Mohamed Nasheed since the landscape in the Maldives is set just a few feet above sea level.
This has led to the potential that players may be able to take their
golf irons to the destination to sample a new experience from that typically associated with the UK.
The office of the president revealed in a statement: "The methods and procedures developed by the company for floating developments reduce the impact on underwater life and minimise the changes to coastal morphology."
Back in 2008, professional stars Colin Montgomerie and Nick Dougherty competed at a specially designed floating golf course built at Canary Wharf in London.
Ryder Cup captain Montgomerie pointed out at the time that accuracy was going to be key with his
golf ball if he wanted to obtain the best results.
