Chris Wood has signed his first golf club deal since deciding to turn professional in 2008 after agreeing a contract to use
Mizuno golf equipment.
The 22-year-old made the step up from the amateur ranks after finishing in a share of fifth in the Open Championship two years ago and since has remained independent with his golf club choices.
However, after taking a liking to some of the offerings from the
Mizuno golf iron range, Wood has now taken the plunge to use additional equipment from the manufacturer.
Wood said: "I hadn't played Mizuno irons until the workshop made me two sets to try and I was very impressed. I could have put either set straight into play out of the box but decided to split them.
"The tour is still new to me, so having Mizuno's experience to call on will be a big help. They can really add something to my game."
Mizuno's Tour operations manager Andy Kikidas added that the shot-making and balance offered by both the
Mizuno MP-68 golf irons and the
Mizuno MP-62 golf irons were also influential in the decision.
The 22-year-old produced an even better performance in the Open Championship last year at Turnberry when dropping a shot at the final hole to slump to a share of third, one-stroke shy of a play-off.
