Irons

When considering which new irons to buy you should take note of a few things. As with the driver, you should get irons that give as much forgiveness as possible. This forgiveness comes in the form of perimeter weighting and a large clubhead, similar to how the technology works in drivers. You should also take note of the length and lie of the clubs, as they will determine your posture; which is a crucial aspect of your game to get right. We have a number of irons by Wilson that offer shaft lengths so that you don't have to alter them yourself. If you want to be a good golfer you have to be able to hit your irons well. If you hit your approach shots well you will land the ball on the green more often, giving yourself more chances at birdie putts. Hit your irons poorly and you will have to rely on your short game to get you out of trouble.

Cavity Back Irons vs Blades

If you struggle with your irons, go for as forgiving an iron as you can get. These are called cavity back irons, and they benefit all golfers. With perimeter weighting the club twists less during impact so more energy is transferred to the ball.

Graphite Or Steel Shafts?

As with a driver, you need to choose the right shaft type to get the most out of your irons in terms of distance and accuracy. Unlike drivers, you can opt for either steel or graphite shafts with irons.

How Many Irons Are You Buying?

Check the price of irons sets carefully, making sure that you don’t just compare the first price you see. Irons used to be sold in the standard format of 3 iron – sand wedge. Due to the introduction of hybrids and separate wedges, many companies offer options where you do not have to buy the long irons like the 3 and 4 (and sometimes the sandwedge).
