Darren Clarke has put his name behind a £55 million venture coupling a five-star golf resort with a youth academy.
The project, which has been proposed by entrepreneur Mike Forbes, would see the creation of 100 jobs in the Angus area of Scotland.
A hotel and spa would accompany an 18-hole golf course, with a Golf Youth Academy also in the offing.
Clarke revealed that he was impressed with the location chosen for the new golf development north of the border.
He commented: "It struck me that the land surrounding the resort had the ideal topography for an amazing golf course capable of offering professionals and amateurs alike a real challenge.
"I am very excited about being involved in this project, my first signature course in Scotland, which would make sure that golf tourism opportunities extend beyond Carnoustie and St Andrews."
While planning permission has yet to be granted for the ambitious project, Alan Mitchell, the chief executive of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, has already announced his backing for the resort.
