Scotland has been named as the number one destination in the world for golf.
The honour was bestowed on the nation by Today's Golfer magazine, which named Scotland as its Destination of the Year.
When it is considered that the Algarve, usually considered to be the golfing Mecca, was pushed down into second place, the achievement is all the more remarkable.
Malcolm Roughead, director of visitor engagement at VisitScotland, emphasised that Scotland is the home of golf and unrivalled in terms of the heritage it boasts.
He commented: "It provides golfers with the ultimate golfing experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
"With the return of the
Open Championship to Turnberry this year in July it is extremely important for us to capitalise on the opportunity this presents to promote Scotland as the number one golfing destination."
There are over 550 golf courses to play at in Scotland - Turnberry claimed number six spot in the Daily Telegraph's world top ten courses.
