The Sanctuary, a hotel which makes up part of South Carolina's Kiawah Island Golf Resort, has won the Mobil Five Star Award.
It is the second year in a row that the guesthouse has been bestowed with the honour - its 255 rooms and suites are part of a site which includes the Ocean Course, the venue for the 2012 US PGA Championship.
The stunning resort offers no less than five championship golf courses, along with tennis facilities, a host of eateries and many more recreational opportunities.
According to the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the award is subject to a strict vetting process: "Properties must offer a level of experience appropriate to the cost, based on the quality of such items as decor, comfort, amenities, and services."
The Ocean course was host to the 2007 Senior PGA Championship, which was won by Zimbabwe's Denis Watson.
Affected by the strong Atlantic wind, the coastal course has been compared to venues in the UK and Ireland.
