'Iconic' Isle of Man championship golf course up for sale
A championship golf course on the Isle of Man has been put up for sale, with hopes high that it can be developed into a world-class golfing holiday destination.

While the Golf Links hotel was forced to close down in 2007 due to financial circumstances, golfers have still been able to play on the adjoining 18-hole course.

However, with the hotel's owners having now retired due to ill health, both the Castletown Golf Links course and the Golf Links Hotel have been put up for sale, the Isle of Man Examiner has reported.

Speaking to the newspaper, the estate agent in charge of the planned sale explained that the leisure complex is an "iconic site" and, as such, the future could be bright for the Manx golfing scene.

"It needs to be developed to become something that the Isle of Man can be extremely proud of," he said.

Earlier this month, plans to organise a new veterans tournament geared towards giving the Isle of Man's senior male and female golfers the chance to carry on playing competitively were announced by corporate sponsors MBL Financial and KHGFfunds.
