Golf cart accident curtails NHL star's season
An ice hockey star in the US is cursing his affection for the game of golf after injuring himself on the course, ending his season in the process.

Erik Johnson of NHL team the St Louis Blues went on a team bonding trip to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and injured his knee on a golf cart.

The 20-year-old defenceman, who was the number one overall draft pick in 2006, mistakenly caught his leg between the accelerator and brake pedals on the vehicle when stepping off.

Dr Rick Wright, who administered medical treatment to Johnson, said he was hopeful the Blues' star player would make a full recovery.

He told the Calgary Herald: "He's a hardworking kid. You know he's going to rehab hard, so you expect a recovery and him back playing for the Blues again next season."

Meanwhile, a growing number of cities and towns in the US state of Iowa are reportedly allowing golf carts on public roads, despite safety fears.
