Tiger Woods said his return to competitive action at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio was "fun".
Playing for the first time in three months after a knee injury, the former world number one shot a creditable round of 68 on the first day, which included an impressive long putt for a birdie at the 16th.
Woods' playing partner, Open champion
Darren Clarke, shot a disappointing 77, while world numbers one and two
Luke Donald and
Lee Westwood shot 68 and 67 respectively.
Australian
Adam Scott leads the field on day one after he carded a superb 62, aided by Woods' former caddie Steve Williams.
"Trying to beat these boys is fun," Woods said afterwards. "Getting out there and trying to win golf tournaments, being there with a chance to win, whether you win or fail, just being there is a rush."
Scotland's Martin Laird was the best performing British player, finishing on four-under, with US Open champion Rory McIlroy two shots further back.
