Hunter Mahan finished with a flourish over the second half of the Waste Management Phoenix Open to gain a second career victory on the PGA Tour.
The Ping golf apparel wearer shot back-to-back six-under-par rounds of 65 to finish one stroke ahead of Rickie Fowler.
Although keeping his golf ball in play and not firing any bogeys over his closing 36 holes was pivotal to his late surge up the leaderboard, Mahan was also happy to reap the rewards of some extra focus with his golf putter.
He said: "I went back to my old putter that I used in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and I have kind of been working on my stroke a little bit.
"I felt like I was rolling the ball well and had good speed out here. If you have good speed on these greens you can make a lot of putts because the greens are so pure."
Mahan also had to change his golf driver after a crack was spotted in his original club, but this failed to cause him any problems.
The 27-year-old began the final round four strokes off the lead held by Brandt Snedeker, but made his significant late charge on the back nine when he carded an eagle and two birdies.
He eventually finished 16-under-par for the event, with the victory adding to the success he witnessed at the 2007 Travelers Championship.
Meanwhile, PGA Tour rookie Fowler will have to wait a little longer for a first professional triumph, despite stringing together four sub-70 rounds in Arizona.
He commented: "Ultimately what I wanted was to have a chance coming down the last few holes. That's what I did, and like I said, I just missed a couple of putts."
Snedeker played well for three rounds but it all went miserably wrong for the Tennessee golfer over the closing 18 holes as he carded a seven-over-par 78.
Double bogeys on his final two holes completed his gloom as finished in a tie for 43rd position.
Most players managed to finish under-par on day four of the PGA Tour event, with last year's PGA Championship winner YE Yang matching Mahan's 65 to rise 20 places on the leaderboard to take third.
Mathew Goggin, Chris Couch and Charles Howell III shared fourth, while there were also top-ten finishes for the likes of Camilo Villegas and Robert Allenby.
Cobra golf equipment user Ian Poulter failed to build on his recent victory in the WGC-Accenture World Match Play Championship and a second-round 63 at TPC Scottsdale as he completed the 72 holes in a tie for 24th.
His nine-under-par total put him alongside Nike golf irons user Anthony Kim and world number three Phil Mickelson, who plays with Callaway golf clubs.
