Inbee Park Looking to Defend Title at her 2014 Opener

Inbee Park Looking to Defend Title at her 2014 Opener
World number one Inbee Park is making her 2014 debut at the Honda LPGA Thailand and hoping to be able to top an impressive 2013.

“Every new season I think about doing better than last year,” Park told reporters in Thailand this week.  “That's usually my goal.  Obviously it's going to be very tough to beat last year.”

With a record that includes 6 wins, three of which were majors, Park has set herself a pretty big task.  But the 25-year-old is ready to take on the competition and believes the break she’s had since December has helped to ensure she’s prepared and focused to defend her titles.

“I think my game is in good shape,” said Park.  “But I feel comfortable coming here and seeing everyone here.  Yeah, I feel good.”

With all of the top 10 players in the field teeing off today, Park will have her work cut out to defend her title at the Siam Golf Club.  Number two Suzann Pettersen is hot on her heels and hoping to be able to over the South Korean.

Rounding out the top four spots Park and Pettersen are joined by the ever-constant Stacy Lewis and the young sensation Lydia Ko.  While the foursome remains competitive there’s an obvious sense of camaraderie within the pack.

“I think the level of the LPGA gets better and better.  To see girls like Lydia that are so young and so competitive at such an early age, it's very impressive,” said Pettersen.

“I guess I'm oldest out of these four, so I guess it's good for us to have players that keep us on our tippy toes, that makes you work just a little bit harder.”  Adding, “I think we all make each other better.”
