Lee Westwood Ends 2014 in Winning Style
Lee Westwood gave himself an early Christmas gift on Sunday when he won the Thailand Golf Championship, marking his 14th victory in Asia.

The English golfer got off to a difficult start during Sunday’s final round, bogeying the opening two holes. But persistence and good play soon kicked in for Westwood who rallied, carding 7 birdies to end with an incredible 5-under 67. Winning the tournament just 1-stroke ahead of Germany’s Martin Kaymer.

“I didn't get off to the best of starts and gave myself an awful lot to do. I knew I had to refocus and gave myself a talking to. I found my swing at the sixth and after that I really got going with four straight birdies,” Westwood told reporters afterwards.

The 41-year-old, who won the inaugural event in 2011, now has 41 professional wins and an added £630,000 just in time Christmas. But even Westwood admits the Amata Spring Country Club wasn’t an easy conquest.

Stating, “It is by far the hardest golf course I've played on in Asia. The greens were firm and the rough was really thick.”

Westwood is now hoping the momentum he secured in Thailand will transfer over to the New Year as the former number one looks ahead to getting back on Tour.

“This is my last event of the year and it’s nice to finish with a win and go into Christmas and start the New Year with confidence.”
