Lexi Thompson Gets Boost with First Major Success

Lexi Thompson Gets Boost with First Major Success
A bogey-free final round helped Lexi Thompson secure a three-stroke victory over Michelle Wie at the Kraft Nabisco Championship on Sunday.

The first major victory for the 19-year-old, Thompson was elated to have won a tournament she has dreamed about for years.

“This is what I’ve worked my whole life for and practiced my butt off for,” Thompson said afterwards.  “I think winning this tournament has helped out my confidence a lot.”  Adding, “I’ve always imagined winning this tournament and how I would win it, but it’s a dream come true.”

The young American golfer is infusing the game with some much-needed hype as her fine showing at Mission Hills proves Thompson’s a force to be reckoned with on the LPGA Tour.  Even gaining the praise of her nearest competitor.

“She played amazing today,” said Wie on Sunday.  “She played probably the best I've ever seen her play.  She hit the ball so well.  She made everything.  It was just hard to catch up to her all day today, but I'm really happy for her.  I'm really proud of her.”
