LPGAs First International Crown off to an Interesting Start

LPGAs First International Crown off to an Interesting Start
The top-seeded U.S. Team got off to a rocky start at the first-ever International Crown.  Suffering losses in both matches yesterday to Taiwan.

“There's probably more pressure with being No. 1, but we all knew coming into match play that anything can happen,” American Stacy Lewis said.

With team mate Cristie Kerr adding the team isn’t giving up without a fight.

“You just have to keep positive and try to find the good in the day,” said Kerr.  “We're going to be coming out guns a blazing.  We have nothing to lose from here on in.”

Thursday marked the beginning of the LPGA event, with the top eight nations competing in 4-women squads to claim the inaugural Crown.  The International Cup has been created to include all nations, including those not eligible for the Solheim Cup.  Giving fans the ultimate opportunity to get behind their country.

Based on the Rolex Rankings the teams competing at Maryland’s Caves Valley Golf Club this weekend are Japan, Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the U.S.  With 32 of the biggest names in women’s golf hitting the course including world number one Lewis, Inbee Park, Karrie Webb and Anna Nordqvist.

The top 4 teams will face off on Sunday for 10 single matches to determine who will be the first International Crown’s victor.  With the U.S. still hoping to make up for lost points yesterday.

“There's a lot of golf left this week, and some teams that maybe won three points today might get shut out tomorrow [Friday],” Kerr said.
