Lydia Ko Wins Inaugural Swinging Skirts

Lydia Ko Wins Inaugural Swinging Skirts
Teenage sensation Lydia Ko celebrated her 17th birthday in style, by winning this past weekend’s inaugural Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in California.

“Normally they would say sweet 16, but I would say it's sweet 17,” Ko said afterwards.  “I don't think I could have any better birthday week.”

With yesterday’s win Ko has earned her first LPGA Tour victory since turning pro last year, her previous wins at the Canadian Women’s Open were both as an amateur.

Ko stormed into contention on Sunday, shooting a final round of 3-under 69.  A birdie on the 18th was just enough to put her one stroke ahead of the overnight leader Stacy Lewis.

Talking to the Golf Channel afterwards Ko was quick to praise Lewis, stating playing with the American seems to bring out her best.

“When I just see her play it makes me feel like I need to play good to I guess kind of keep up with her,” the young Callaway player remarked.  “She’s just a great player and someday I want to become a great player just like her.”

With an already impressive record and still not even 18, Ko is well on her way to being one of the sport’s greats.
