Miguel Angel Jimenez to Captain European Team at 2014 EurAsia Cup
Captains for the inaugural EurAsia Cup have been announced.  With Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez taking the lead for team Europe and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee for team Asia.

As the Ryder Cup style tournament is scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur in March of next year, the appointment of two big name players is sure to get the exposure and excitement organisers have been hoping for.

Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji stated that, “The selection of Thongchai Jaidee and Miguel Angel Jiménez as captain for Team Asia and Team Europe respectively will intensify the battle for the inaugural EurAsia Cup.  Both are highly respected players with a great amount of success and I am sure they will lead their teams proudly and effectively.”

Approved by both the European and Asian Tours, the EurAsia Cup will set 10 of the finest European golfers against 10 of the greatest Asian golfers in a three-day match that promises to showcase the best of both continents.

“I am a huge fan of The Ryder Cup, but being Asian, I will never get to play in it,” said Jaidee.  “The EurAsia Cup will offer the chance for the best Asian and European players to come together, and I am looking forward to leading a determined group that will do their very best for team honour and pride.”

Jimenez added, “With so many world-class players now emerging from the Asian Tour, it is sure to be a close contest.”
