Pablo Larrazabal Takes Abu Dhabi Championship Title from Two Major Winners

With two of the best players in the world battling for the top spot on Sunday, the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship gave spectators an unexpected ending. As Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal took advantage of their missed opportunities, he was able to edge out both Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy to claim his third European Tour victory.

The Callaway player, who is ranked number 103 in the world, was able to stay calm and focused during a tense round that saw the 30-year pitted against Mickelson and McIlroy. A triple bogey on the 13th for Mickelson left a space for Larrazabal at the front of the pack.

A gorgeous five-foot putt on the final hole secured the Spaniard’s win. A victory he is more than satisfied with.

“I beat two of the three most talented guys in my era,” the 30-year-old told the European Tour.
