Patrick Reed Becomes Youngest Winner of a World Golf Championship

Patrick Reed Becomes Youngest Winner of a World Golf Championship
With the top 50 players in the world taking part at this past weekend’s WGC-Cadillac Championship, the young Patrick Reed stormed into contention, capturing his third victory in just eight months.

Matching the highest winning score at Doral, the 23-year-old finished at 4-under 284 on the newly redesigned Blue Monster.  Reed now joins an elite group including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia as the only players to win three Tour events by the age of 23.  A feat Reed believes he more than deserves.

“I've worked so hard.  I've won a lot in my junior career.  I did great in my amateur career,” Reed told reporters after Sunday’s win.  “Now, I have three wins on the PGA Tour.  I just don't see a lot of guys who've done that, besides Tiger and the other legends of the game.  I believe in myself.  I feel like I'm one of the top five players in the world.  I feel like I've proven myself.”

While he might feel like one of the top five this latest win will likely move the Callaway player from 44th to 20th in the world rankings, but has given Reed the number 3 spot in the Ryder Cup standings.

World number 1, Tiger Woods continued to struggle with a bad back.  Carding his worst-ever Sunday score yesterday, a 78.  With just one more start for the Nike player before Augusta next month, Woods will be hoping for better results at Bay Hill than this weekend’s tie for 25th.
