Tiger Woods Announces Comeback

Tiger Woods announced on Friday he is ready to return to the golf course. After a three month hiatus due to back surgery the Nike player will be hitting the greens this week at the Quicken Loans National.

Woods made the announcement via his Facebook page. With the golfer confirming he is now ready to return to game that he’s dominated for over the past two decades. Beginning with an event that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.

“After a lot of therapy I have recovered well and will be supporting my foundation next week at the Quicken Loans National. I've just started to hit full shots but it's time to take the next step,” wrote Woods. “I will be a bit rusty but I want to play myself back into competitive shape. Excited for the challenge ahead.”

The tournament, being held at the Congressional Country Club will be the 38-year-old’s first competitive round since the WGC-Cadillac Championship in early March, where Woods visibly battled throughout the event with lower back pain.

Three weeks later, the golfer underwent surgery and has been recovering ever since. Forcing Woods to miss the first two majors of the year and last month lose his top spot to Australia’s Adam Scott.

The announcement is good news for sponsors and players as Woods is an obvious draw for spectators and fans. Fellow golfers including Keegan Bradley and Bubba Watson shared their excitement about Woods’ imminent return.

With Bradley telling reporters at the Travelers Championship, “I’m so pumped. It’s great news for golf and great news for the Tour.  A no-Tiger Tour is not the same.”

As Watson concurred, “It’s good for the game of golf. We’ve been wanting to see it. No matter if he misses the cut, no matter if he just finishes middle of the pack, it’s a great thing for golf that he’s back. It means he’s been rehabbing the right way, and the doctors feel he’s good.”
