Second round action at the BMW Championship ended on an unpleasant note for
Tiger Woods. The Nike player learned he had received a two-stroke penalty for ball movement from officials after the round. While Woods felt the ball only oscillated a bit, video footage shows actual movement.
The world number one was less than pleases when informed of the penalty, leaving the scoring room and golf course without speaking with reporters. The vice president of Rules and Competitions for the PGA Tour, Slugger White explained the situation and showed Woods the video evidence he believes clearly shows the movement.
“He had a pretty large loose impediment behind his ball, which he moved. And there was a little stick of some sort kind of obviously next to his ball, and when he rolled that, the ball in fact moved, said White. “So in that situation, had he put the ball back it would have been a one-stroke penalty. He didn't, so he gets a two-stroke penalty.”
Going into today’s third round, Woods is tied for 13th while
Brandt Snedeker and
Jim Furyk are tied for 1st at 11-under. With Furyk making history yesterday, becoming only the sixth player in PGA Tour history to score 59 in a round.
