Torrey Pines Looked at for 2021 U.S. Open
Yesterday it was confirmed that an offer to Torrey Pines South to host the 2021 U.S. Open had been made by the USGA. The same course where Tiger Woods won his 14th major in 2008.

The San Diego City Council will now vote on the issue but with the Mayor already voicing his excitement for the tournament’s return it seems a likely approval.

“It's a great win for San Diego,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The fact that we've been selected again speaks volumes as to how this city came together and put on a world-class tournament in '08.”

The city hosted the U.S. Open in 2008 when Woods finished in a tie with Rocco Mediate. Forcing the tournament into a sudden death playoff. After securing his 14th major it was revealed that the Nike player had performed with fractured tibia. He had knee surgery a couple days later, ending his season and has yet to win another major event.

While we’ll have to wait until next week to learn the fate of Torrey Pines for 2021, USGA President Thomas O’Toole explained to the paper why they believe the venue is the perfect place to once again stage the event.

“We wouldn't have gone back to Torrey Pines any sooner than 10 years, and we're slightly outside that range now. We have a fabulous Open there; the city was great; and the community was incredibly supportive.”
