U.S. Names Curtis Cup Team
The Americans will be hoping for a home side advantage as they attempt to win back the Curtis Cup this June in St. Louis.

Yesterday the American team was announced by the USGA.  With U.S. Captain Ellen Port showing her definitive approval of the 8-women team selected from the top 25 amateur players in the country.

“Representing your country in the Curtis Cup Match is one of the highest honors a female amateur player can receive, and I know these women are more than up to the task,” said Port.  “We are all looking forward to June and the opportunities that are ahead of us.”

In 2012 team Great Britain and Ireland won the Cup for the first time in 16 years at the Nairn Golf Club in Scotland.  At the time the girls helped make history uniting the Curtis Cup with the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup and Walker Cup, all in the possession that year of European teams.

The roster for the 2014 Great Britain and Ireland team won’t be released until May 6th.  With the Ladies Golf Union altering the selection process for this year’s players, the team will consist of four from the World Amateur Golf Rankings, two from the LGU Order of Merit and two picks from the customary selection panel.

The biennial Curtis Cup tees off June 6th-8th at the St. Louis Country Club in Ladue, Missouri.
