U.S. Needs Ryder Cup, So Says Phil Mickelson
Callaway golfer, Phil Mickelson is eager to make 2014 the year he completes his grand slam of the majors. But earlier this week the 43-year-old admitted a Ryder Cup victory is also high on his season agenda.

“I thought we had this last one and let it slide, a four-point lead we let get away,” Mickelson said at a press conference ahead of this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

While Mickelson’s desire to win the biennial event is surely a personal goal, the golfer also thinks it’s necessary to rejuvenate the competition.

“I think if we were able to come out on top that week, it would be something really good, not just for the United States, but also the tournament in general because we have not been faring well in that event.”

Mickelson will now be looking ahead to starting 2014 with a win in Abu Dhabi. The Callaway player is also hopeful this could finally be his U.S. Open year.

“I play well in that tournament too often to not believe or be confident in my ability to close that tournament out.”
