Perry fights through Pennsylvania rain to share lead | Kenny Perry was the only one of five golfers with a share of the AT&T Classic's first round lead to have started in an unfortunate afternoon group, rather than yesterday (Thursday, May 15th) morning's sunshine at the Sugarloaf Golf Club.
Jonathan Kaye, Ryan Palmer, Jonathan Byrd and Parker McLachlin all enjoyed early tee offs and got to six-under without being adversely effected by the weather - unlike Perry.
"The last few holes were brutal," said Perry of his round of 66.
Meanwhile, his fellow leaders were thankful to have avoided the torrential rain.
McLachlin, who hails from the sunny climes of Hawaii, commented: "It's always nice to catch a good end of the draw because it doesn't always happen that way.
"I've caught the bad end plenty of time when you have played in the morning and you are expecting it to be calm (but) it's really windy."
One-time PGA Championship winner David Toms was stationed one behind the leaders on five-under after one day of the tournament.
