Frank Thomas, the designer of the Frankly Frog putter, has revealed that the inspiration behind the club's design came to him one night in bed.
Thomas, who estimates that he has made between 6,000 to 7,000 decisions on golf equipment during his 26 years at the United States Golf Association, explained that he had often dreamt about creating the perfect putter before coming up with his idea.
"One night I woke up and said, 'I know exactly what I want'," he told the Detroit News.
After casting an eye over what he had sketched Thomas realised the similarity between his creation and the amphibian.
He continued: "I showed it to a friend and he said to me, 'Frank, this looks like a frog'."
Veteran German Bernhard Langer debuted the Frankly Frog putter on the PGA Tour's recent WGC-CA Championship at the Doral Resort in Miami.
