A putter which claims to reach new levels of accuracy thanks to its unique design has been deemed worthy of a patent.
Designer of the Quantum Putter Duane Engdahl was given a US Utility Patent this month for his creation, which uses a glide plate attached to the sole of the putter in order to reduce friction and edge drag from the greens.
"It elevates the putter head up off the green so that the centre of gravity of the head is perfectly aligned with the centre of gravity of the ball along the vertical axis of the sweet spot - this, as a matter of physics, is a requirement for sweet impact," he told World Golf.
The putter was among the topics of discussion at the fifth World Scientific Congress of Golf.
Mr Engdhal gave a talk covering research and scientific testing which led to the development of the technologically-advanced club.
