Sandy Lyle, who quit during the first round of the Open Championships at Royal Birkdale last week, does not think his decision will affect his chances of becoming the European Ryder Cup captain in 2010.
Despite the fact many have branded the Scot's actions as unprofessional, Lyle is confident he will not be adversely affected by the episode in his bid to lead the Europeans against the US at Celtic Manor.
"People have their own ideas and my idea is that it won't hurt," he said. "I don't think it'll harm my chances," the two-time major winner told the BBC.
He went on: "The Ryder Cup is two years away and there's a lot of water to go under the bridge. I'm looking forward to the next Ryder Cup coming up first of all and see how the team does."
Lyle, who was 11-over par after ten holes in challenging conditions when he decided to call it a day, revealed he wrote to chief executive of Open organisers the Royal and Ancient, Peter Dawson, following the event.
