Plymouth University is to offer a foundation degree in tournament golf.
The course will be open to 24 young players with ambitions to become professionals and will be run in association with the European Tournament Golf Academy, Duchy College.
Among the areas covered will be course management, technique development, personal management, sports psychology, media relations, nutrition and golf technology.
Lewine Mair, the Daily Telegraph's golf correspondent, commented: "Unlike those who head for universities in the United States, the teenagers who opt for this largely British-based opportunity will be able to compete regularly on the British amateur circuits.
"That means they are less likely to be out of sight and out of mind when it comes to the selection of teams for competitions such as the Walker and Curtis Cups."
Ten weeks of the course are to be held at the La Cala Resort in the Costa del Sol - the venue of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School.
