Golf is and has been for a long time, a sport dominated in numbers by men. Because of the relatively small number of female players the ladies market is much smaller, which has led to a lack of choice when it comes to golf clubs.
With a surge in the number of female golfers in the last few years, top manufacturers are now offering quality clubs with the same technology used by men, in clubs designed specifically to suit the ladies game.
Other than a few minor differences in the clubs, you can otherwise use the men’s guide to find out about different club types and technology.
The differences in women’s clubs compared to men’s clubs mostly revolve around the size of the club due to the smaller size of the average women compared to men.
The head weight and shaft weight of the clubs are lighter than those of the men to enable a faster swing speed. The clubs are also slightly shorter for greater control and the woods are given greater loft to increase carry distance.
Flexible graphite shafts are used which allows for greater distance at slow swing speeds, and finally the grips tend to be slightly smaller in diameter to accommodate ladies hands.
When buying a driver you should try to look for a high loft if you struggle with distance. This usually means a club with 13 degrees of loft or more.
The golf ball market is far more open to ladies than the club market, with balls that are suitable for men and women, as well as low compression balls which are specially made for slower swing speeds.
Most of the difference in golfing equipment comes in the clothing and accessories. We have a large collection of both for women on and off the course. |
