Phil Mickelson is aware of the added significance often attached to tournaments linked to the game's legends.
Mickelson is readying himself for this week's Memorial tournament which was founded by Jack Nicklaus - one of four US Tour titles which are attached to one of the sport's enduring names.
Having taken the Crowne Plaza Invitational on Sunday (May 25th) - a tournament also known as Hogan's Alley after two-time winner Ben Hogan - Mickelson also has the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the EDS Byron Nelson Championship under his belt, meaning at win at the Memorial would make him the first player to complete a 'Legends Slam'.
"It is a special feeling for a player to win a tournament that the greats have associated themselves with," the world number two told the PGA.
He continued: "That's a very strong lure for tour players of today to show respect and try to play the events that Arnold's put his name to, Jack's put his name to, and Byron as well."
KJ Choi, Players Championship victor Sergio Garcia and Ernie Els are stand out entrants at the Memorial, with Luke Donald, Paul Casey and Ian Poulter representing English interests.
