Head movement study results revealed  Tuesday 15 July, 2008 11:22:44

The results of a study into the head movement of players when putting have been revealed, with some interesting findings. Led by Professor of kinesiology Tim Lee, a team at Canada's McMaster University found that the nature of the head movements - slight or otherwise - made by those with a large handicap differed from those of more competent players.

A putter which claims to reach new levels of accuracy thanks to its unique design has been deemed worthy of a patent. Designer of the Quantum Putter Duane Engdahl was given a US Utility Patent this month for his creation, which uses a glide plate attached to the sole of the putter in order to reduce friction and edge drag from the greens.

A recent putter review by Golf magazine found the F3-DF model Heavy Putter (see picture) the best better for MOI rating, with a value over double some of the other top brands. The test was conducted to see which putter had the highest Moment of Inertia (MOI) resulting in more accurate putts.

Frank Thomas, the designer of the Frankly Frog putter, has revealed that the inspiration behind the club's design came to him one night in bed. Thomas, who estimates that he has made between 6,000 to 7,000 decisions on golf equipment during his 26 years at the United States Golf Association, explained that he had often dreamt about creating the perfect putter before coming up with his idea.
