Jeev Mikha Singh won a place at the top of the day one Irish Open leaderboard with a show-stopping 40 foot putt on the final hole of his round yesterday (Thursday, May 15th).
Singh appeared certain to drop a shot on the 9th when his approach shot found the bushes, but a nearly-holed chip which ran away from the hole was followed by an outstanding putt to stay at six-under par - level with Australia's Richard Green.
Talking through his dramatic finish, Singh commented: "I was just trying to chip it out from there and it came out perfect. Missed the hole and went to about 40 feet away - I was happy with that."
He continued: "I said okay, I know I can make a six, but when I rolled that putt, I know it looked pretty good."
Last year's runner-up Bradley Dredge, Johan Edfors of Sweden, France's Michael Lorenzo-Vera and Marcel Siem from Germany made up the chasing group two shots behind at four-under.
Current champion Padraig Harrington posted a solid even par 72 in his first round at the Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort.
