Andres Romero claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans yesterday (Sunday, March 31st).
The Argentine, who fell agonisingly short at last year's Open, double-bogeying the 17th as final round leader, finished on 13-under for the tournament, after a four-under 68.
However there was a long wait for the 26-year-old as a rain delay interrupted proceedings.
Romero, who came away with $1,116,00 (£558,000) commented: "I'm glad to win my first PGA Tour event. I will play on the PGA Tour as much as I can."
He said of the delay: "I didn't know if it would be enough. I was a little nervous. I tried to spend time with my friends."
Irishman Padraig Harington registered an impressive fourth place finish, three stokes behind Romero.
Peter Lonard had the chance to force Romero into a play-off, but missed a long putt on the 18th. The Australian will be consoled with a probable US Masters spot, as well as the $669,600 (£334,000) runner-up cheque.
