Wedges are a crucial part of your golfing arsenal if you want to score well and become a good golfer.
You need to have a good set of wedges, 3 or 4 should be adequate, although some like to have 5. This will typically consist of a pitching wedge, sand wedge and a lob
wedge.
The pitching wedge and sandwedge often come included in your set of irons but it is a good idea to consider replacing when you buy a set of irons.
Wedges are very versatile clubs, allowing you to hit regular shots like you would with your irons such as low punch shots under trees and high shots over trees. With clubs with different bounce amounts, you can hit the ball more effectively from the sand, heavy rough and bare lies.
As you progress, your set of wedges will become more useful and you will be able to increase your imagination around the greens, playing low chip shots, high flop shots and controlled spin shots.
To get the best results, it is desirable to get a set of wedges that complement each other, as you do when you buy fairway woods or irons. This usually gives you clubs with similar feel that are designed to cover distance gaps. |
