11-Year-Old Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Open

11-Year-Old Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Open
Is it us, or are golfers getting younger and younger?  On Monday 11-year-old Lucy Li from Redwood Shores, California qualified for next month’s U.S. Women’s Open.

Li, who doesn’t turn 12 until October, is the youngest player to have ever qualified for the event.  England’s Lexi Thompson qualified in 2007 at the age of 12 and while Beverly Klass was only 10 when she played at the 1967 Open, there wasn’t qualifying then.

Michelle Wie took to twitter this week acknowledging the young golfer’s amazing accomplishment.

The sixth grader will now make her way to Pinehurst next month where she’ll be playing alongside the biggest names in women’s golf including Wie, Stacy Lewis, and last year’s winner, Inbee Park.
