Billy Horschels on a Roll and Reaping the Financial Benefits

Billy Horschels on a Roll and Reaping the Financial Benefits
Billy Horschel has kept a relatively low profile throughout the season. That is until the last three weeks.  Culminating in the golfer’s amazing victory on Sunday at The Tour Championship in Atlanta, three-strokes ahead of Rory McIlroy and Jim Furyk.

With his 11-under-par win at East Lake yesterday, Horschel also nabbed the FedEx Cup as well as earning himself another impressive payday, all before the expected arrival of his first child at the end of this month.

In the last three weeks, where he tied for 2nd at the Deutsche Bank Championship, then won the BMW Championship before yesterday’s victory, Horschel has earned over $13 million USD.

“This is unbelievable,” Horschel told reporters yesterday.  “From what I’ve heard, kids are very expensive, so the more money I can make, the better.”

While the American might not have been one of Tom Watson’s Ryder Cup picks, the 27-year-old is having a pretty incredible time on the golf course, a fact even World Number 1 McIlroy had to admit.

“There's a few guys I'm glad I'm not going to see at Gleneagles,” McIlroy said when talking about this month’s Ryder Cup.  Horschel, being the first player he subsequently mentioned.

While McIlroy went into yesterday’s final round sharing the lead with Horschel, it was soon apparent the Nike golfer wasn’t going to be able to outshine the American.  With the Northern Irishman admitting afterwards that he wasn’t playing his best golf.

“I’m looking forward to a few days off and not seeing my golf clubs for a little while,” said McIlroy.  “I’ve been in the gym every day this week and that’s fine, but mentally I’m a little fatigued.  Billy deserved it, he played the best golf all week.”
