Charley Hull has joined professional golfers Carly Booth and Henni Zuel in support of #ThisGirlGolfs, an initiative aimed at increasing female participation in golf.
As Hull prepares to take on the best of the best at this week’s Women’s British Open in Scotland, the 19-year-old is also speaking out and throwing her weight behind the campaign to get more young girls interested in the sport.
“I have always had a love of golf, picking up my first club aged five. It’s a fantastic game to play with friends, a great way to relax and get outdoors,” said Hull.
Adding, “It’s been great to be part of This Girl Golfs. I hope it will encourage girls to head down to their local driving range or golf club and give it a go.”
Inspired by Sports England’s #ThisGirlCan, this latest female-driven campaign hopes to breakthrough the stereotypes surrounding golf and encourage women of all ages, ability and financial standing to take up the game.
Chief executive of the PGA, Sandy Jones explains, “Golf is a very accessible, welcoming and enjoyable environment and we want to get that message across to women who may not have considered golf as an option.”
Adding, “This is a great opportunity to both raise the profile of golf, break down myths and misconceptions and to actively encourage women of all ages to see golf as a realistic choice - whether that is for personal, professional, business or social reasons.”
