Golf’s Great Return to the Olympics Solidified

Justin Rose and Inbee Park are now major winners and Olympic Gold Medalists. Proving to the world golf certainly belonged at the games in Rio and introducing the sport we love to a new generation of players.

So some of the big names in men’s golf thought Rio wasn’t important enough but watching Rose claim the first gold medal in golf after 112 years for Team GB was definitely one of our favourite 2016 memories.

On Saturday Park further solidified our love for Olympic golf when the South Korean beat World Number One Lydia Ko to claim gold for the first time since 1900! The 28-year-old came to Brazil a total underdog after missing two months of the LPGA season due to a thumb injury. But it was obvious from the beginning how important the games were to Park and she proved just how good she is.

“I feel extremely honoured and proud that I get to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games. It feels truly unreal,” Park told reporters afterwards. “I have won many tournaments but I have never felt this before.”

Adding, “Even if I hadn’t won a gold medal this week, it would have been a fantastic week. There was nothing guaranteed because I hadn’t played well this season. I had to overcome a lot of obstacles.”

And isn’t that the true test of an Olympian? To overcome obstacles to be crowned the best. We are still on a high from Rio and now can’t wait to see what Tokyo 2020 brings for the game of golf!
