Henrik Stenson Snaps Club on the 17th at the Open
Henrik Stenson didn’t have the opening round he was hoping for at Royal Liverpool.  And the golfer’s gap wedge bore the brunt of his steaming frustration.

Video shows Stenson snapping the golf club over his knee on the 17th hole after encountering an issue with the rough.  The 38-year-old then proceeded to calmly hand the club (in two parts) back to his caddie.  Stenson went on to finish the first round on Thursday with a 72, 6-strokes behind the current leader Rory McIlroy.

This isn’t the first time the Swedish golfer has allowed his temper to get the best of him during competition.  Stenson broke his driver at the 2013 BMW Championship as well as a wedge at the 2011 U.S. Open.

The Callaway player will most likely face a fine for the incident and was not overly anxious to discuss it yesterday.  Admitting, “I slipped.  Let’s just leave it at that.”  Before adding, “It [Stenson’s gap wedge] will need a bit of love after lunch.
